Preparing children to live in THEIR future is designed to help kids understand how the world is changing and how to cope with new situations in a socially responsible way. We want our children to have a framework to solve problems. We are thrilled to offer Chinese as a Second Language as one of our classes this year. Our instructor is not only a native Chinese speaker, but also is getting her master’s degree in childhood education.
To further enhance the language portion of our program, we will also be learning sign language. Expanding our students’ thinking to include those differently-abled can help them be more accepting and understanding. We find music to be an integral part of everything we do at Stony Hill and our summer program is no exception.
Each week we will focus on a specific topic communicated through music, art, physical activities, theatre and discussions. Our socially responsible portion of the program will involve the students in projects benefiting the community and individuals in need.
Programs by Age
Our Summer program is customized to meet your child’s needs. There will be an abbreviated program for our 3-6 year olds covering either Mon / Wed / Fri (5 and 6 year olds) or Tues / Thurs (3 and 4 year olds) from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm and have age-appropriate activities and materials. (NOTE: if your child needs all day care, they can be in the afternoon sessions as well.)
Our 7—11 year olds will be Monday through Friday, 9:00am—5:00pm. During those times we will schedule field trips in the middle of the day to facilitate drop off and pick up. (Part time is available if needed from 9-1.)
For those young people interested in a summer experience, we are offering a small number of mentorship positions. In these positions the young people will be coached by a mentor and involved with the program, but more as a facilitator than a participant. This is a nice alternative for young people who aren’t old enough to get a job but need something to do for the summer. These students will also begin discussing life skills like job interviews and resumes, balancing checkbooks, responsibility on line, and more.
